The danger of red meat

Published by choopixie under planet, vegetarianism Edit This

Whoa. Check out the latest article “Red meat primes body for germ: study” (see site: http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/5111485). I didn’t know eating red meat can compromise your immune system, causing it to be more susceptible to a dangerous form of E. coli. According to the study cited in the article, consistently eating red meat is like putting out a red carpet for the virulent E. coli bug to make its home in our body, and potentially causing bloody diarrhea that can eventually lead to our unhappy demise. Apparently, sugar molecules that are naturally found in red meat, which get accumulated in the cells lining the intestines and blood vessels, attract the toxins given off by this E. coli strain. As a result, these sugar molecules make it even easier for the toxin to enter the bloodstream and, therein, cause damage to our body. What a nasty bug.

So, what more reasons do we need to cut down, or even stop eating meat?

SOS: Stop Global Warming Seminar in Thailand

Hi, folks! I’m back. I’ve just attended an SOS: Stop Global Warming Seminar in Thailand. It was pretty informative and worth the trip. There were three quite notable speakers there: the vice president of the Asian Institute Technology, Professor Sudip K. Rakshit; Mr. Jacob Kurian, a United Nations representative; and Dr. Art-Ong Jumsai, a former NASA scientist. Interestingly, both the UN rep and the former NASA scientists agreed that vegetarianism plays a large role in curbing the climate change crisis on our planet. The honored guest speaker, Supreme Master Ching Hai - a humanitarian, artist, musician, and meditation guru - was also present via video feed. All in all, it is quite good that different countries are taking the initiative to do inform the public and find solutions to stop global warming. I just hope that there will be more events like this happening around the globe to make an immediate impact. Wouldn’t it be great if we are united globally in this moment of crisis to save or beautiful planet?

It’s not the cow’s fault

Hi folks, some interesting information I’ve found that’s worth checking out: Meat Contribution to Global Warming: The Cow is a Climate Bomb. (see http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,druck-574754,00.html) According to a German consumer protection organization Foodwatch, cows are climate bombs. Well, I don’t think it’s the cow’s fault because burping and passing gas is a natural process of life. It’s actually our fault for raising too many of them for human consumption that the gas they pass, whether through the mouth or through the you-know-what, becomes too much. In fact, it’s just not cows that are contributing to global warming, it’s all farm animals raised in astronomical amounts, in the billions, to satisfy our palate. Whether they are organically raised or with conventional farming methods, the amount of gas they pass doesn’t change.

The article also addresses the need for more government action. Well, there hasn’t been much. Not too many governments are willing to go to the heart of the climate change problem, and that is to stop or drastically reduce meat production for human consumption. Well, except for Taiwan, they recently have a “no meat, no heat” campaign. Even their president and some cabinet members said they’ll go veg to help combat the global warming problem. Not bad for a small island nation. Perhaps other governments around the world should look to their example and make some decisions on effective climate protection policy. Hans-Joachim Koch, the former chairman of the German Advisory Council on the Environment puts it very bluntly, “No one dares to say that we ought to eat less meat and more plant-based protein.”

Wow.

I wonder what it will take for the world governments to hitch up their pants and do their job right.

P.S. : If you can’t access the article for some reasons, leave me a comment below and I will post it.
