I see here, the government, though not much, takes actions, high penalties for destruction of native forests, jail people who deforesting the forest. But there is awareness among the population. In Ecoles, this much work, but there are people who simply do not respect. The government is not able to get all the people who make it. For the cattle herd, Brazil has not only forests. There are places that can, yes, create herds without cutting forests. The problem is not with the government only, there is also the population.

"Brazilian government doesn’t give a fig about the environment." but as you so sure of this? Have you ever come here?

Brazil is not only using the land for livestock (actually, I didn't know that before, so thanks for the info!), but they're also using the fertile and nutrient-rich earth for soybean growing. They justify it that when the existing farmland is depleted of nutrients and turned unfit for more farming (about a 3 year process), it ends up being cheaper to deforest the area for new farming than replenishing the existing land with fertilizers.

Yes. It would be great if he makes it to the best American President. His election was historical, and the huge turn out for his inauguration was the first time ever.

*lynne*: It's great that you're using more soy substitutes. I've added more online stores that offer some of the soy and natural alternatives. I hope you find them useful :)

I'm making it a point to use more soy substitues: I use the tofu crumbles instead of ground beef, and it tastes fine to me. I call that fake beef. I tried some fake chicken strips the other day and they were decent - even my husband liked them, so yay, I'll be adding that too.

I read somewhere that if all the food we fed to cows (that we then killed for us to eat) was instead redirected to feed us directly, there would not be any food shortage in the world. Dunno how true that is, but it did make me more reluctant to consume only dead animals for my protein!

p/s: The point about "charismatic predator fish" is eye-opening!

I watched a video about an air vehicle on YouTube a while ago - it was a documentary done by the BBC, and was very in-depth about what was being done. The prototypes didn't look anything like the car in that article, so I'm thinking they must be two different vehicles. This company also had a different timeline - they were supposed to get the vehicles out on the road sometime this year, and were only supposed to cost $12,000. They had a much larger range and could go faster too.

It's been a while since I watched the video, but I've been intrigued by the idea ever since, and told my husband that our next vehicle would be an air powered one. ;-) We shall see...
